The Game UN:Me: A Cerebral Horror That Blends Survival Horror with Social Deduction Mechanics
The recent Day of the Devs digital showcase revealed several intriguing future games, but one especially has seized the imagination: UN:Me. Created by Historia and Shueisha Games, this solo adventure appears to blend the dread-filled setting of a Silent Hill game with the paranoid deduction core of Among Us.
"This is a distinctive experience where a young woman containing multiple personalities within her needs to flee from a maze of the psyche," explains developer Yasukazu Kawai.
Entering a Fractured Consciousness
In UN:Me, players take control of an unnamed heroine seeming to be of high school age. Inside her reside four distinct souls, all possessing their own fears and motivations. These entities can seize control spontaneously, unleashing their deep-seated terrors upon her suddenly.
Based on showcased footage, much of the narrative unfolds within a creepy hospital, though other scenes show the main character navigating a abandoned church.
A World of Individual Dread
"What are you afraid of? What causes you uncomfortable?" poses game director Shun Sasaki. "Heights. Small rooms. Authority figures. Elements that seem trivial to others can trigger a deep instinct inside us. This game delves into that concept — fears that are specific to each person."
The core gameplay loop involves controlling the persona that emerges at any given moment. However, these souls will switch against your will during gameplay. During exploration, every persona's anxieties become exaggerated and attack the protagonist in succession. When the soul shifts, so does the specific fear the player experiences.
Unsettling Visuals and a Fatal Choice
Initially, UN:Me shares noticeable aesthetic parallels with the Silent Hill franchise. The setting is populated by nurses who all share the identical visage, with unnervingly wide smiles. Figures in the waiting room have enormous blooms growing from their necks are. Floral motifs are an ever-present element, juxtaposing natural beauty with supernatural dread.
Yet, UN:Me introduces a unique mechanic. Players are tasked with deducing which of the four entities haunting the heroine is the "true" one. "All four personas claims that the body is rightfully them," notes a developer. "Throughout the game, you need to figure out who is authentic."
Once players believes a persona is fake, they must eliminate it. But, since each soul can lie or hide the truth, it is incredibly simple to choose incorrectly.
"Perhaps you've already eliminated the real [soul] with your own hands," a voice states. "The final entity standing might be a fake. Either way, your choices are final."
UN:Me currently lacks a publicly announced release date, but it is can be wishlist on digital storefronts.
