Antony Price, the influential British fashion designer behind some of the most iconic looks favored by musical icons like Bowie and members of Roxy Music, as well as Queen Camilla, has sadly died at the age of 80.

Price was best known for his architectural shapes and theatrical styles, most notably the soft-colored suits that featured in rock band Duran Duran's seminal music video for "the song Rio".

"In a tribute, they called him a 'visionary' and a 'kind, intelligent and razor-witted friend,' the band released a statement on social media."

Price's death comes shortly after he unveiled his latest collection in London, marking his return to the runway after over three decades. Artist Lily Allen modelled a dress inspired by the famous black velvet "dress" once worn by the late Princess Diana.

A Lasting Legacy

A native of Yorkshire, born in 1945, Price relocated to London in the early 1960s to attend the esteemed Royal College of Art.

A year after graduating, he commenced his career designing menswear at the company Stirling Copper and was behind the body-hugging, buttoned trousers that The Rolling Stones' frontman Mick Jagger sported during The Rolling Stones' "Gimme Shelter" tour in 1969.

He established his eponymous line in 1979 and held his debut runway presentation a year later. The show featured as its opener looks from supermodel Jerry Hall, who also wore the marriage dress Price created for her for her wedding to Sir Mick Jagger.

Partnerships with Stars

A key creative partner of musical chameleon David Bowie, Price was the mind behind the memorable jacket the star wore for his "As The World Falls Down" music video in 1986.

His trademark skill to fuse tailoring for all genders along with his expert craftsmanship in shaping body-hugging looks established him as a "true original," in the words of the British Fashion Council.

During the nineties, he began working on outfits for the then-Duchess of Cornwall, Camilla, which included a number of outfits for her US tour following her marriage.

After a career spanning over fifty years, Price presented his final runway show in London just last month in partnership with the design house 16Arlington.
