Chiefs Acknowledge Domestic Violence Claims Involving Wide Receiver the Athlete

The Kansas City Chiefs released a comment Wednesday night confirming they are aware of domestic violence allegations circulated in online accounts by a ex-partner of wide receiver Rashee Rice and had been in contact with the league office.

The team did not mention the player specifically in their statement and stated they would have “nothing more to add at this time”.

Dacoda Nichole Jones, who likewise did not name the athlete by name, shared a series of photos on Instagram that appeared to show indicators of bodily harm. Jones stated the individual in question was the father of her children, and reports indicate she has kids with the football player, whom the Chiefs selected in the second round.

No police reports were on file in Overland Park, Kansas where the alleged abuse is said to have occurred.

Rice's Recent Legal Issues

The receiver missed the initial part of this NFL campaign due to an league-mandated ban for his involvement in instigating a multi-vehicle accident on a Dallas highway that left several individuals injured. Rice was sentenced 30 days in jail and five years’ probation after entering a guilty plea to serious offenses.

Statistically, Rice finished the year with 53 catches for 571 yards and five touchdowns as the Chiefs finished 6-11 and failed to qualify for the postseason for the first occasion in a ten-year span.
