Brian Eno Urges Backing to Send Palestinian Solidarity Track to UK Festive Top Spot.
A charity drive is aiming to send a traditional song from Palestine to the Christmas number one spot. The project aims to send support to Gaza's residents while also showcasing Palestinian culture and creativity.
A Chance for Unity and an "Surprise Victory"
Musician and artist Brian Eno, who features on the track, stated that the single 'Lullaby' represents a moment to support Palestinians over the Christmas period. He acknowledged the potential for an unlikely festive coup.
“It would be incredible if that occurred, yes,” he stated. “I’m not gonna be completely disappointed if it doesn’t, festive releases are a category of their own.”
Powerful Theme of Self-Determination
Palestinian singer Nai Barghouti, who features in the adaptation of a folk song called Yamma Mwel El Hawa, explained the song's defiant core message.
“It has a profound significance for many individuals,” Barghouti said. “It’s basically saying that I would prefer a dignified death than live a life without freedom. That’s the main theme of the song; we want to live a dignified life that we are entitled to as Palestinians.”
Track's Background and Contributing Musicians
The track was produced following a large-scale benefit event held in the autumn. Initially planned to be performed and recorded live, the piece was shelved during the concert due to the event running long.
The notable list of performers featured on Lullaby features a range of prominent voices from the industry. All were part of the benefit event, which reportedly raised a substantial amount for humanitarian aid.
Production and Release
Lullaby was produced by a team of music creators. The single showcases a fusion of the original Arabic with new English lyrics.
The group managing the initiative have emphasized that their goal is to collect the highest amount for a specific fund. These donations will be channeled to initiatives supporting Palestinians through an established charity.
“We don’t have a fixed goal,” a representative commented. “We will pursue the maximum achievable. Naturally, the greater the amount, the better. All proceeds are directed out to the people of Gaza.”
The context in the region was characterized as its profound destruction, with a vast majority of infrastructure described as levelled or seriously harmed.
“Given that reality, a couple of million is unlikely to make a massive dent. But I think the significant factor is first of all spreading knowledge of this plight and showing that another narrative exists.”
The track is scheduled for release on Friday. Additionally, a full recording of the charity concert will be made accessible to view on a popular streaming site from later in the month.
